Meth and Viagra

Crystal Meth and Viagra. Meth and Viagra Together. Viagra and Meth.

Viagra and Meth

Methamphetamine (meth) use has been associated with high-risk sexual behavior for both homosexual (MSM) and heterosexual samples for over a decade. The use of Viagra has also been shown to be associated with high-risk sexual behavior. When both meth and Viagra are used together, it could lead to harmful effects.

There is evidence that using Viagra is associated with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) seroconversion in MSM. The combination of taking both meth and Viagra is strongly associated with much higher sexually transmitted disease and HIV rates. [1] Definitely, The meth-Viagra recreational drug combination is very high-risk.

Crystal meth or meth is a powerful and highly addictive stimulant that may affect your central nervous system. There is no medication yet to prolong the abstinence from meth or to reduce the misuse of the drug. The most effective meth addiction treatment at this point are behavioral therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and contingency management interventions.

Mixing Meth and Viagra

Sildenafil (Viagra) treats erectile dysfunction (impotence; inability to get or keep an erection) in men. There is some evidence that Viagra is used more by MSM than by hetero men, although there is a finding that hetero men who take Viagra are more likely to have insertive anal intercourse with women. This may be associated with heterosexual transmission of HIV from men to women. [2]

Meth and Viagra
Recent studies show that meth and Viagra use is associated with unprotected anal intercourse.

A PubMed research also explained that the used of meth and Viagra is associated with sexual marathons. Sexual marathons are prolonged sex over hours or days. During the marathon, the participants may have sex with multiple partners in the same period. Many of these sex acts may be performed without latex barriers. Those who participate may take meth to get energized for the marathon sex acts to follow. [3]

Polydrug use, such as meth and Viagra, can create more euphoric highs but intensifies the side effects of any individual drug and makes them more dangerous.

Crystal Meth and Viagra – The Risk

The use of the illicit drug crystal meth is one of several factors that may be fueling increases in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among gay and bisexual men in the United States. The risk also increases when mixed with Viagra.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), or sexually transmitted infections (STIs), are infections that are passed from one person to another through sexual contact. The contact is usually vaginal, oral, or anal sex. But sometimes they can spread through intimate physical contact. This is because some STDs, like herpes and HPV, are spread by skin-to-skin contact. [4]

STDs don’t always cause symptoms or may only cause mild symptoms. So it is possible to have an infection and not know it. But you can still pass it on to others.

If there are symptoms, they could include:

  • Unusual discharge from the penis or vagina
  • Sores or warts on the genital area
  • Painful or frequent urination
  • Itching and redness in the genital area
  • Blisters or sores in or around the mouth
  • Abnormal vaginal odor
  • Anal itching, soreness, or bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
Meth and Viagra
Meth and Viagra are often mixed to enhance sexual pleasure despite the health risks.

Mixing meth and Viagra increases the risk of getting HIV. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It harms your immune system by destroying a type of white blood cell that helps your body fight infection. This puts you at risk for serious infections and certain cancers.

Viagra overdoses are rare, but they have been reported to be fatal in some cases. Therefore, taking Viagra only as prescribed and telling your doctor about other medications you take is essential. If the victim has collapsed, had a seizure, has trouble breathing, or can’t be awakened, immediately call emergency services at 911.

Although some substance abuse counselors may be reluctant to discuss sexual issues with their clients, relapse prevention discussions might benefit from acknowledging how sex and drugs are interrelated.

Meth and Commonly Abused Drugs

The use of more than one drug, also known as polysubstance use, is common. This includes when two or more are taken together or within a short time period, either intentionally or unintentionally.

According to CDC [5]:

250+ —The number of American lives lost to drugs every day

50% — In 2019, nearly half of drug overdose deaths involved multiple drugs

The dangers of polysubstance use also apply to prescription drug abuse. Always let your doctor know what drugs you are taking to prevent any adverse reactions with newly prescribed medications. Never take pills that did not come from a pharmacy and weren’t prescribed to you.

Meth Addiction Treatment Near Me

The use of Viagra for erectile dysfunction, in the absence of contraindications, is extremely safe provided the drug is taken under proper conditions. But if you are mixing meth and Viagra, you will need substance abuse treatment.

Recognizing an addiction problem in someone you know can be harder than it seems. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) [6] defines addiction as a chronic disease that affects the brain’s reward, motivation, and memory functions. Someone with an addiction will crave a substance or other behavioral habits. They’ll often ignore other areas of life to fulfill or support their desires.

General signs of addiction are:

  • Lack of control, or inability to stay away from a substance or behavior
  • Decreased socialization, like abandoning commitments or ignoring relationships
  • Ignoring risk factors, like sharing needles despite potential consequences
  • Physical effects, like withdrawal symptoms or needing a higher dosage for effect

These signs are commonly linked. The degree of intensity for each sign may depend on how long the addiction has been going on.

Meth and Viagra
Behavioral therapy is effective in treating meth addiction.

Treatment of meth-dependent users has been found to be promising for reducing HIV high-risk sexual behaviors. Patients might benefit from interventions targeting sexual behavior and substance use as mutual triggers.
